Dog: More Assertive When She's Asleep
Dog is a funny critter. She loves everyone. She's the friendliest thing you'll ever encounter. She even gets along with cats. She never barks or growls at anyone or anything.
Sometimes I wonder whether Dog thinks she's too nice. Silly thought, right? But then again, animals do think- we just don't know what it is they think about.
She'll sometimes sit on the arm of the couch and stare off into the distance, with a pensive look on her face. It's funny to see, because you can almost hear her working something out in her head. Her eyes take on the look of a person deep in thought. She'll even throw in a sigh or two sometimes. It's adorable.
Anyway, sometimes, when she's sprawled across the couch or on our bed, sleeping, she dreams. She growls, huffs as if she's running, yips, whimpers. I picture her dreaming about chasing Cat and actually being assertive by growling at him for a change, and maybe barking.
Just a while ago, Cat was asleep next to me on the bed and Dog came upstairs and jumped on the bed across from him. Cat immediately starting mewing angrily and hissing at her. I kept petting him, trying to calm him down, while Dog kept inching closer and closer to him. Finally, she bent down and sniffed the tip of his tail and that did it- he lunged at her, swinging and spitting.
She hid behind me and Cat turned around and went under the bed.
So yeah, maybe in her dreams, she's more of a badass. Though I can't be certain if it's that, or if she's just dreaming about chasing a bunch of steaks on roller skates.
